Vote Design

If you're a true I Love Belgum addict you may remember our Commerce Design Award article dating two years back... If not, don't worry we won't hold it against you. But just like in 2011 The I Love Belgium team was invited to be part of the jury and make a selection of the best new retail design in our capitol. We fulfilled our task and selected 10 great interiors, now it's up to you to vote for your favourite. And we wouldn't be I Love Belgium if we provided you with a random-placed rundown!

- Garage à Manger

This new lunch place/cookery classes is located in an old garage building hence the name. You may know the owners as the people who run the food truck El Camion, yet this time they focus on a fixed lunch place where vintage and design go perfectly hand in hand. Atelier ProtOtype provided the general look and feel, which even includes a children's caravan playground !

- Smets

High-end shopping in a concrete construction, that's how we could sum up Smets in a few words. On the other hand we would be missing out on the impressive bamboo structures, the world-class art cladded walls, carpeted wine-bar or colorfull organic dressing rooms. As you can see, Zoom Architecture provided a multi-faceted shopping and design experience!

- Joya Brussels

Made possible by two young jewellery designers, Joya Brussels serves as a response to the lack of display opportunities for young talents. Designer Ariane van Dievoet provided the girls with a flexible and modular grid system with plenty of possibilities, evoking the movement present throughout the existing Art Nouveau details.

- Unico

How to turn a small ground floor into a cosy restaurant/wine bare? Atelier Dynamo succeed with an uncomplicated layout, open kitchen and smart use of wall space. In this "cave à manger" you'll find the interior principles back in your plate: honesty, energy and locality. Hopefully, the next generation of neighbourhood restaurants will be inspired by Unico's characteristics!

- Delbôve

A few months ago we praised the work of artistic director Christophe Remy for the revived all-Belgian beauty brand Delbôve. So we were happy to see that they submitted the all-round project to the Design Commerce selection committee. And why wouldn't they, the interior of the shop just shouts luxury. The brass shelving system, well-picked antiques and hand-painted wall decorations are just a few of the many interior elements that reflects the quality of the Delbôve product.

- Pimpinelle

Foodies be warned, this shops will seduce you into going overboard! Pimpinelle is not just your average kitchen utensil shop, here you can follow a course piñata making, have food workshops or just have your four-o-clock tea time. The original 19th century wall-tiles forms the background for of an almost gallery-like space in which well-selected objects are displayed. You just feel the love for composition, colour and materials so be warned.

- Hopdog

How to turn a hot-dog desirable? You start with fun interpretations of a classic, add a great visual identity and serve it in a well-designed space! Unid Design provided that last element with a chain interior with heart. Although the space answers a few obligatory chain requirements such as readability, accessibility, ... Unid Design succeeded in adding a second layer. A layer that doesn't only invite but also diminished the fact of being within a food chain concept. Well done we say!

- AUB-SVP

It used to be the entrance of a cinema complex but today it serves as a breakfast and lunch place. Four power houses teamed up to create an unique experience. Kenny Bernaerts, creative chef of Yves Mattagne prepares the food while baker Yves Guns Willy Grieten provide the necessary artisan bread an products. Number four is responsable for the interior: established architect Bart Lens of Lens Ass! Our advice? Put it on your to do brunch-places.

- Ptyx

Books displayed in a window can be easy forgettable unless those books are presented on a building-high bookpage! And therefore Ptyx is one of those rare bookshops that grabs and hold your attention even before you enter. Edena architecture reassured the continuation of the graphic page element within the bookshop. Aside from the minimal black wall elements, the books and ceiling graphics add the necessary warmth and cosiness.
