Veronique Branquinho X CAMPER X Bernhard Willhelm

The Spanish shoe brand Camper is not a afraid of collaborations. Their Camper Together line is “a model of collaboraion between Camper and leading designers to create exclusive products and outstanding stores”.

This means that they have already  worked together with the likes of the Campana Brothers, Alfredo Häberli, the Bouroullec brothers and Jaime Hayon for the interior concepts of their different stores all over the world. But not only their flagships in different capitals get design make-overs, they also extend their shoe collections with fashionable –an adjective that was not used that often with their normal collections- designs by renowned designers. Bernhard Willhelm already designed a Spring/Summer 2010 collection for them and now he’s back with some colourful sneakers that will not go unnoticed.  His men’s collection is a reinvention of the sneaker with colourful thick laces and a see-through sole. His women’s collection is very rough with thick full wood heels, but the boldness of the colours makes the design more playful.

But there’s more, also Veronique Branquinho has designed a men’s collection for the Fall/Winter 2010 season and a men’s and female collection for the Spring/Summer 2011 season. Since she stopped her own brand, she’s been specializing in accessories being creative director for Belgian luxury leatherwear pride Delvaux and now designing this collection for Camper. The FW 10 collection features two classic models, a Derby and a Chelsea boot, made using the highest quality leather, crêpe rubber soles and handcrafted Goodyear Welt construction. The details are found in the coloured thread of the stitches or in a fine line sketched on the heel.

Although we are convinced this is a fine shoe, we are more enthusiastic about the SS 11 collection. The Derby shoe comes back again but it looks more stylish and sleek.  Men are spoiled with another model: a casual sportive sandal. Colourful and elegant. Women can jump for joy with Branquinho’s take on the espadrille: three different models of high-heeled women’s sandals that reference back to Camper’s Majorcan heritage. The details are found in the game of braiding and raffia. With the colourful stitching and vibrant coloured insole, the Belgian designer shows that this sandal is in for a long fresh summer.
