Steel Photography by Cafeine for CAAN
We know, the title of this article is a handful. Therefore we'll brake it up into parts! First of all you have Cafeine, the architecture & Interior Photography Office by Thomas De Bruyne who provided us the photographs. Secondly you have CAAN architects who provided the photographed subject: an award winning steel extension of a historic house.
The existing house in Bruges, dating from the early 19th century, was entirely redone into its original state. At the same time a new steel extension was added. This narrow, linear and floating steel volume offers an elegant counterweight to the existing massive brick house.
Because the existing house offers a broad range of refined details, the architects tried to capture the same type of quality in the new addition. Using the steel in all its facets (construction and finishing) they obtained the same level of detail. The coalition of the steel masterpiece with the traditional house ensures the stately and stylish character while giving an appropriate contemporary contrast. Want to see more? Click here!
