Staircase Lovin'

Let's say that 80% of all houses have a staircase. Let's say that 99% of all staircase are just a tad boring. And you know we don't support boring! Therefore the I Love Belgium team researched into interesting staircase design.  A good way to give you ideas if you're on the hunt for one or if you feel like a change. And no, we didn't go to DIY shops like Brico or Gamma, instead we browsed the net for all-Belgian creative ideas. And we found them at the architecture offices of Lhoas & Lhoas, Nu Architectuur, Lpp and SHSH. Let's dicover!

What do you do if your client just bought a Brussels Art-Nouveau house but wants a modern interior? Well you create a statement piece that connects the history of the Art-Nouveau house with the desires of the client. And that's what the brothers Lhoas did with their statement staircase and balustrade. Although bright white, the graphics used in the design take references from the Art-Nouveau movement. Yes, we dig it!

The biggest problem with staircases? Their heaviness! That's why we needed one as light as a feather. With this example it's as if the architect played around with paper, started folding it and said to himself "hey, that would be a nice staircase". So if you live in a small apartment this staircase it the one to have!

4. Nu Architectuur

For the renovation of a theatre in Ghent, Nu architects decided to go theatrical. This stack of big chunky wooden steps form an impressive spiral staircase. Moving away from a practical object and going towards a monumental installation. When design becomes art ...
