Sideboard Loving

We all have one 'cause we all need one! Sideboards are, according to our friend Wikipedia, traditionally used in the dining room for serving food. According to I Love Belgium a sideboard is used to handle our consumerist society. Indeed, we stuff our sideboards with CD's (which we don't use any more), books, useless presents and a lot more junk we rather hide. That's why the I Love Belgium team searched 3 Belgian examples noteworthy to mention!

We start with a multi-talented sideboard. The container sideboard by Alain Gilles is a reconstruction of a de-constructed archetypal sideboard. In other words a  series of modular containers stacked unevenly along a "landing dock" base. As you can play with different types of finishes and settings, several furniture pieces can easily be created form the same original elements. And while this is an article about sideboards, this one can also be seen as a dresser, media storage cabinet or television stand. We like!

In the middle we go graphic. The Limited Edition textured sideboard of design office Dust Deluxe is a treat for the eye. This drip wood-texture effect is based on the increasingly 3D rendering of objects. Say what? Yes, today designers use renders in order to imagine a designs final form. The modeling software works in stages; first modelling a neutral object, which corresponds to the form of the object and only then texture is applied. Therefore Dust Deluxe proposed to take the same approach, by creating neutral forms in white and then literally project the texture, onto them. Smart and beautiful!

And we finish in beauty with the colourful version of Ghent-based design office Moca. Quite obviously this design is titled "framed" as the black frame traps 5 units. The play on volume and colour results in a youthful design with a touch of retro (blame it on the fifties inspired colours). What we like about it? The open space underneath can serve as a shoe rack or cat hideout place.
