In the Pink

Antwerp’s design company, DIALECT, has revamped the boutique Step by Step by giving “pretty in pink” a whole new definition.

At the entrance of the boutique, visitors are greeted by a display case filled with Barbie and Ken dolls decked out in a plethora of outfits—almost paying tribute to the ultimate “Pink” fashionista herself along with her equally flashy friends. As soon as you step in the boutique though, “Pink” has been transformed to mean calm, natural, sophisticated and streamlined.

The design uses a comparison between natural elements like oak and an outdoor patio and artificial elements such as pops of color, raw steel and concrete to create subtle divisions throughout the store. Yet, this same comparison creates a complex space, which is subdued, but captivating. The timeless look also works perfectly with the store’s aesthetic. For example, the calm pink tone starts on the floor but continues halfway up the back wall to allow your eye to seamlessly glide throughout the space while still letting the designer clothes speak for themselves.
