Maria goes Milano

Design circus to it's fullest, that's how you can describe the design week during the Salone Del Mobile. Star designers introduce their new products, of course edited by desirable design brands, and show their profitable smiles for the gathered international press. That's why the I Love Belgium team is keen on talking about young Belgian design talents represented in the city of design and aperitivo! One of those is Ghent-based Maria Scarpulla who's work are represented at Venture Lambrate.

Although the name may sound Italian, Maria is an Interior Designer with Belgian and American Nationality. Yet, there's an italian side to her story as she spent her childhood in Italy among an artistic community, enchanting landscapes and sublime food. These powerful influences in a place where the ancient and the modern converge are the basis for her strong interest in colors, minimalistic forms, and linear movements.

In 2012 Maria Scarpulla started her self-titled studio in Ghent. Maria uses her mixed cultural background in a quest for a universal language of forms. This leads to objects with subtle lines - a kind of functional poetry - a tribute to life and timeless beauty. Among her works we can find objects who give the owner freedom of dialogue – to modify the identity of the product, to play with colors and light according to the mood.

Just have a look at her projects and you'll understand what we are talking about! We're sure we'll see more of this young talent in the short future!
