I Love Belgium goes Dutch (VOGUE)

VOGUE, saying this iconic fashion magazine's name out loud immediately summons images of front row fashion shows, fashion editors with perfect hair and sunglasses and underpaid assistants. It's probably one of the strongest brand names in the world. So when the I Love Belgium team got an exclusive invitation to have a luncheon with the Dutch VOGUE team, we could not resist to say no.

But why would a blog called I Love Belgium go to the launch of a Dutch fashion magazine? Well, it's a lil' bit Belgian too and we knew this on beforehand because Dutch people just love Belgian designers so we were sure we would find a lot of Belgian love in the first edition of the queen of all fashion magazines in the Netherlands.

The cover is fresh and young and gives an understated glamour feel, something you cannot alway expect from a Dutch fashion mag. Unfortunately no Belgian designers on the cover, the girls are strutting Acne, Valentino and Chanel. But yes, what's the cover saying (we'll translate it for you) : Number one in the Netherlands and Belgium. Actually they made this cover especially for Belgium and we're sure it will attract every fashionable Belgian woman.

And we hear you thinking  'What about the content, is there some  Belgian love to be found in there?'  Loud and proud we say 'yes'! Our gut feeling was correct, our lil' country got quite some visibility in the  first edition. In the section Miss VOGUE Style there's a two-page spread interview with Belgian fashion lady Raïssa Verhaeghe in which she explains she always picks out the more menly items in a women's collection (so do we), she has 55 pairs of shoes (wow) and doesn't have any Dutch designers in her closet (woopsie). Raïssa worked 10 years for Véronique Branquinho, 4 years for BVBA 32 (the company behind Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackermann) and now she became General Manager  of... well you'll just have to read the interview.

And there's more. In a shoot with big & bold accessories we could spot Belgian topmodel (still going strong at 34) Hannelore Knuts. The beautiful series is styled by Saskia Van Langevelde and photographed by Nico. You'll see a sneak preview underneath, but you'll have to get the magazine to see the full shoot.

As we speak, the whole Dutch fashion pack is partying the night away. The question on everybody's lips was also: who are going to wear tonight. And yes, the editorial team of Dutch VOGUE will represent Belgium very well. Rinke Tjepkema, the online editor of VOGUE.nl will look gorgeous in a short Theyskens Theory dress and editor-in-chief Karin Swerink will be dashing in...well we promised Karin not to say it but we can give away that's it's a Belgian designer, who went to primary school in the Netherlands, studied fashion at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and lives in Paris. Ra, ra, ra... we'll post Karin's red carpet picture tomorrow on our Facebook page.

The Dutch version of every woman's fashion bible will be exclusively available at the Dutch department store De Bijenkorf on Wednesday the 21 of March and as from Thursday it will be in every bookshop in the Netherlands and...Belgium.
