An Art-packed Weekend

It's that time of year again, when several art galleries around the world pack up things and pay a visit to our welcoming capital. Next to the mother of all Brussels-based art fairs, Art Brussels, some new and exiting things are taking place for the first time. The I Love Belgium team is happy to help you out with a nice overview. So grab your agenda and start planning your weekend!

Let's start with the biggest and oldest of the bunch: Art Brussels. Celebrating it's 30th anniversary, the fair is still maintaining its strong position in the international art market. How? Well, by presenting over 2000 artists from various disciplines, ranging from contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, video installations to performance.  Art lovers can buy high quality art for a four-digit number whereas collectors can expand their collection with internationally established names such as Anish Kapoor or Damien Hirst. And when you are there, take your time to discover all 182 contemporary art galleries!

We move on with the Off-fairs. It's the first time that Brussels welcomes so many Off-fairs. Yey us! The most exiting one? Slick Brussels. You may know Slick Paris as the biggest Off fair during the FIAC in Paris, well now they decided to pay a us a visit. What makes Slick great? Next to 45 international galleries, you have 18 Slick projects: these monumental large-scale projects punctuate the space between gallery stands. So no endless lines of white booths. And next to that you have the pop-up restaurant of French star chef Christophe Pelé who will prepare a 3-course menu for only 35 euros! Advice of the day: visit Slick around noon.

We also have Poppositions. Poppositions is the team effort of young and innovative galleries that work with site-specific exhibitions. Therefore quirky Brussels Congrès station serves as an unique architectural setting. Furthermore, as Poppositions wants to promote their artists to the widest public possible, entrance to the fair is free.

The last one? The Off Art Fair (yes, it's titled Off). Their advantage? The prettiest location: the historical Brussels Stock Exchange in the centre of the city (which has been long closed for a long time). Their concept? Forty invited galleries, each of them will exhibit a duo of artists. A nice extra? The Off art Fair is opening up to schools, reserving a half day of tours for them. How educational!

We end this article with a BAANG! Or the Brussels art and night guide, the perfect guide for all the gallery openings, arty parties and closing drinks during Art Brussels. Isn't it the perfect match for a splendid weekend?
