’t Casteelken designshop

Where to shop for good design in Belgium? Brussels, Antwerp, Liege or Ghent? No, it's in Rumbeke... 't Casteelken is since 1976 located in the centre of this little village in the west of Flanders. So why would you go there? First of all it's the biggest designshop in Belgium (yes big is better), selling brands such as Cappellini, Flos, Kartell, Moroso,Vitra, ... They also have a fine selection of Belgian design brands including Quinze & Milan, Vlaemsch, When Objects Work and Extremis.
The second reason is the building itself! The shop is in an old tin factory which received a facelift in 2003 by renowned architects Coussée & Goris. For the modernisation they decided to add a glass skin around the old factory. Using 260 glass panels which are all provided with a vertical line pattern, ensuring a rich fragmented view, contrasting the monolithic church and picturesque houses on the town square. All this ends up in a 1000 square meters glass and 41 ton steel architecture.
Not convinced yet? They also hold art and culture exhibitions, have design previews and designed the setting for the box office success "Loft". They even give away Pantone chairs if you know an interior architect who wants to join the 't Casteelken team. The I Love Belgium team just loves this way of head hunting! I wonder what we would give away ...
